IN TOUCH LETTERS

ABOUT

In Touch Letters is an installation, community events, and a daily practice…

Through years of a long-distance friendship, letter-writing has allowed my best friend and I to remain in touch - metaphorically and physically. The sensation of opening a mailbox and finding something that has been crafted specifically with each other in mind connects us in a myriad of ways. It’s a feeling that is uniquely personal yet universal: a daily practice we wanted to share.

To a certain degree, these letters reflect our diaries in loose-leaf form. The envelopes are collaged and capture our surroundings at the time (e.g., old newspapers, dried leaves, flight tickets, maps, etc.). They also capture ourselves (e.g., fears for the future, details of our surroundings, secrets, or the next month’s goals).

PHASE l

INSTALLATION

A temporary installation at the Granoff Center for Arts, Brown University, from May - June 2022. This installation consists of 250+ collaged letters sent over 5 years of long-distance. The interactive installation encourages viewers and participants to appreciate their physical surroundings, question the digital methods of communication, and rethink relationships as they traverse time, distance, and tactility.

PHASE ll

COMMUNITY EVENTS

Hosted a series of community events with friends, family, and neighbors.
